won the Kiriyama fiction prize for "The Hummingbird's Daughter".The Kiriyama Prize, is given to "literature that contributes to greater understanding of and among the peoples and nations of the Pacific Rim and South Asia", and is sponsored by Pacific Rim Voices, a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco.
